Preparing Your Pool for Summer Fun

It may be hard to believe it, but summer is already around the corner, and it’s time to start thinking about getting your pool ready for the season. When it comes to getting your pool ready and keeping it in excellent working condition, there is more information and help available now than ever before. One of the best and most straightforward options is to invest in routine care from a reputable professional, like your friends at Regina Pools and Spas. Not only does a service save you the time and effort of pool maintenance, but it can save you money because you won’t need to invest in as many tools and supplies on your own. That said, getting your pool ready on your own is not too hard if you follow these easy steps!

Stock Up On Supplies

Before you even think about getting started on season maintenance, the first step you need to follow is to get your tools and equipment ready. Having the right stuff means that you can take care of all of your steps in a timely, efficient manner without the need to run out mid-cleaning. Leaf scoops, algaecide, pool brushes and hoses, a testing kit, vacuum, stabilizer, and super shock chlorine are all needed right away.

Get It Clean

Next, you’ll want to remove the physical debris by starting up your pump and filter. Make sure to clean your filter before turning it on to be sure that it’s working to the best of its ability. This is also the best time to scoop out any debris and start running your vacuum. Once the pool is cleaned, you’ll only need to run your pump for 8 to 12 hours a day.

Reduce the time you spend each year on maintenance and get up to date with our Robotic Pool Cleaner offerings, or make your life easier with a Polaris Pressure Cleaner

Shock Your Pool

Once the pool is running, it’s time to chock the pool. Depending on the level of debris in your pool and how much maintenance you’ve done over the winter, will affect how much of the shock chemicals you will need to use in your first treatment of the season. A general rule is 2 pounds of chlorine shock per 10,000 gallons of pool water. To get an exact amount of chlorine for your pool, please give Regina Pools and Spas a call or stop by the showroom.

Test the Chemicals

After two days of circulating the pool, bring in a sample of the pool water to be tested for any balancing chemicals that may need to be added to make the pool safe for swimming. After the water has been balanced, it’s time to jump into the pool!

Bring Out the Toys

Last but not least, it’s time to pull out and restock your pool toys. Now is the time to invest in a few extra Instagram-worthy pool floats to help ensure your pool is the talk of the neighborhood.
