When it comes to owning a swimming pool, keeping up with pool maintenance is extremely important. Water balance is one of the most essential steps of pool maintenance, but it can also be one of the most confusing processes. Continue reading to learn more about the importance of a balanced pool and how to keep your pool water safe.
The four most important things to keep balanced in your pool are pH (the measure of acid activity in the water,) Alkalinity (the measure of the ability of the water to resist changes in pH,) Calcium Hardness (the measure of dissolved calcium and magnesium,) and chlorine (the sanitizer or oxidizer.) Read on to see some reasons to keep all of these in check.
Keeping an eye on pH and chlorine, besides ensuring the pool surface and equipment are being looked after, also means that swimmers will be comfortable as they float and dive. The pH levels have an effect on skin and eyes, as water that is too acidic or too basic will not feel comfortable for those swimming. Excess chlorine or an imbalance of chemicals can also cause skin and hair irritation. Ensure everyone using your pool stays safe and comfortable by maintaining a correct pH.
Whether you use a salt based pool producing chlorine or a chlorine tablet based pool, the balance of the pool is very important. If your pool water isn’t balanced correctly, the chlorine sanitizer will not work as well as it should to kill germs and bacteria leaving the water susceptible to algae and other issues.
Safeguard Your Pool Equipment
Another side effect of an imbalanced pool is corrosion. Incorrect water balance can be corrosive to your pool surface, ladders, railings, and other pool equipment. Corrosion can be caused by any imbalance; however, calcium and ph are most often associated with this.
